Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise. Psalm 100:4
Safety is one of my deepest needs.
Maybe my need for safety is rooted in my watching too much America’s Most Wanted as a little girl. Or possibly being raised by a single mom who double checked locked doors and often looked out windows in the middle of the night to ensure our safety.
Regardless, as a 44-year-old woman even today, I want to feel safe.
In my home.
Courts: An enclosure. A place surrounded by a fence. A holy tabernacle.
There are so many Scripture references pointing to the safe place that is found in God. Here are just a few…
The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. 2 Timothy 4:18
The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
I have read these verses multiple times before and clung to the Truth of the safety I find in God alone. But never had I associated my thanksgiving and praise with ENTERING into safety, as well. Look at the definition of courts. DON’T MISS THIS – When we give thanks – praise rendered by acknowledging and abandoning sin – we enter into a secured enclosed space with the Father. Praise ushers us into His Holy Tabernacle where nothing can harm us.
It is no wonder we call on the name of Jesus when we are scared…. His NAME is a fortified tower of SAFETY.
So when you enter His gates with Thanksgiving, you are being invited to the fortified tower where the righteous run and are safe. Thanksgiving points us to the shadow of the Almighty where we can dwell and enjoy safe pasture.
Who knew THANKSGIVING pointed us to safety?
Now that I know my offering of gratitude points me to my deepest human need – safety – I am even MORE inclined to extend my hands in praise to my God… my Hiding Place.
Take a moment now and enter His gates with thanksgiving. Go into His Courts with PRAISE! Envision yourself surrounded and safe… protected by the One True King.
Journaling: Make a list of the areas you feel the least safe or secure. Where is God in each of these areas? What does Scripture say about the security and safety we have in Him? How do these Truths counteract any fears associated with these areas of insecurity?
