Sweet Soul Words: “I am consumed by God”

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28-29

I made a connection yesterday.

I thought about how when I am hurting, angry, lonely, discouraged, bored, etc…. I am drawn towards consumption.

Think about it.

It feels good to consume…..

Shopping
Eating all the things
Alcohol
Gossip
TV Binging
Social Media
What else am I forgetting?

But have you ever stopped to consider that maybe we are drawn towards consumption because we are created to BE CONSUMED?

Even in Deuteronomy, one of the first warnings in Scripture is to NOT make an idol of anything. Don’t be consumed by something else.

WHY? Because….We are made to worship ONE. Consumed by ONLY ONE.

Pretty interesting isn’t it? This heed goes first and fast to the front of the list.

Do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything… for the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. Deut. 4:23-24

He is jealous for you. He wants your attention, affection and admiration.

Not because He is stingy. But because He knows anything apart from Him doesn’t satisfy, soothe or seal our hearts for heaven. Everything else leaves us hungry for MORE CONSUMPTION.

I don’t know about you, but the things I am drawn to consume are eventually harmful. They don’t appear that way at first – innocent actually – but in the long run they bring some form of destruction. Either to my relationships, health, or spiritual growth.

God wants to CONSUME all of us. And when He does, He burns off old desires and habits and replaces them with life, peace and wholeness.

And as my then toddler son would once say when standing in front of the snack pantry …. “I want that.”

So today, we make a declaration. Sweet soul words that will bring healing now, and even better, wholeness later….

I AM CONSUMED BY GOD.

Yeah. Isn’t that good???

Be mindful today friends when you begin to feel consumed by anything – anger, rage, discouragement, desires, etc….. these are little grace flags that will direct you back to your ALL CONSUMING FIRE.

(Say it out loud right now and make a point to say it all day long. I am with you. Be blessed. Be strong. Be consumed. xo)
