He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me. Psalm 18:19
Can I be frank with you?
I really want you to like me.
Yes, I want you to enjoy this blog and my deepest hope is the Lord would use this space to draw you closer to Himself, increase your faith and foster your spiritual growth.
But, deep down, I want you to like me, too.
I find myself in complete turmoil at times when I think people are mad or just not “ok” with me.
Even last night, my husband came home, his mind full of heavy things from a weighty day of counseling cases, and instead of interpreting his quietness as decompressing from a hard day at work… I ask him, “Are you mad at me?”
“Are we ok?”
“Have I done something?”
I am not beating myself up about this. I truly think this is a HUMAN condition and some personality types are more prone than others.
But can I go out on a limb here and make an assumption? Is our deep need to be liked a reflection that we really aren’t convinced that God likes us first?
I didn’t say “loves” us. I think we get that.
It is much easier to understand His LOVE. I mean, God sent His son to the cross because HE LOVES US.
We learn from day one that God loves us. All preschool Bible stories have some underlying LOVE message. I really think we get “love”.
But God likes us, too.
HE DELIGHTS IN YOU.
Delights (châphêts): to be pleased with, to desire, favor, like, be (well) pleased, have pleasure
He does. He really likes you. He is pleased with you. He desires to be with you. He takes great pleasure in who you are.
If He was in town, he’d want to swing by, take you to coffee.
God is more than just “OK” with you. He thinks you are the coolest.
He isn’t mad at you or annoyed. You don’t irritate Him.
Sure, God LOVES YOU. So much.
But… God likes you. A lot.
So when I am downcast because I feel people DON’T like me, I can rest a little easier because I know the one who does.
Today, I want you to say these words out loud. These sweet honey comb words will bring healing to many of you, I am guessing.
Someone needs to hear this…. God likes you.
Yes He loves you. But He likes you, too.
Say it…. God likes me.
God likes me.
God likes me.
(And for what it is worth, so do I. Thanks for following along. Have a blessed day. xo)
