30 Days of Deeper (Day 30)

Teach me good judgment (discernment) and knowledge, For I have believed and trusted and relied on Your commandments. Psalm 119:66 AMP

As we wrap up our final day of our 30 Days of Deeper, I would be amiss if I did not take note of the overwhelming amount of circumstances, situations and people around me who are seeking direction and discernment from the Lord RIGHT NOW.

And while the needs are so broad, different and wide, the prayer is exactly the same – “God, give me discernment.”

  • God, give me discernment to parent my teenager.
  • God, give me discernment in my fight against cancer and my medical options.
  • God, give me discernment at work and the challenges I face with corporate.
  • God, give me discernment with dating and how to move forward in my new relationship.
  • God, give me discernment to use the last days of summer as an investment in my kids.
  • God, give me discernment on how to best use our financial resources.
  • God, give me discernment how to best love my husband in this stressful time.
  • God, give me discernment regarding my career path.
  • God, give me discernment for my children and this new school year.
  • God, give me discernment regarding this pandemic and how to best care for my family without fear.
  • God, give me discernment for my marriage and how to move forward in a difficult season.

Oh, it could go on and on. These are just a few that either I myself am dealing with or situations around me.

LORD, GIVE US DISCERNMENT.

But being one who loves a step-by-step program, I have searched the Scriptures for a checklist on knowing God’s plan for our lives. And shocker – there isn’t one. No guidebook to report, just the Guide Himself.

There are several Scriptures however, that do help us in our journey of discernment. Passages that can easily be turned into prayers. And honestly, in a pursuit of deciphering God’s plan nothing serves us better than prayer and patience.

Occasionally, God will part the sky and give us a clear answer, but most often my experience has been pursuing Him in prayer, seeking godly counsel from a trusted few and WAITING.

I know, right. Waiting.

But we must.

So if you are in a season of “God, give me discernment” then I pray the below passages give you hope, direction and help you in the wait.  Don’t worry though – God is FAITHFUL and He WILL answer you. He hears your prayers. Don’t give up even if the situation seems absolutely IMPOSSIBLE.  Stay course because He is good and His slower solution is always better than my quick fix.

From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I’ll do it. That’s how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it. Whatever you request in this way, I’ll do. “If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth.” John 14:14-17

I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. Phil 1:9-10

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.  Romans 12:1-2

If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord
with all your heart

And do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him,
And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].  Provers 3:5-6 AMP

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are several others throughout the Scriptures that may speak to you regarding your situation and give you insight from the Lord. If you are in a season of seeking discernment, I do encourage you to press into prayer, calling upon the Spirit of Truth. He will guide you in the renewal of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

I love you all. Thank you for journeying the past 30 days with me. More to come indeed.

Lord Jesus, we need you more than anything. We need you to speak to our hearts regarding YOUR plan and purpose. You know every intricate detail of our earthly lives and each detail matters greatly to You.  God give us discernment.  Lead us in truth and love. And unveil Your word afresh to us in light of our individual situation. We love you. We trust You and we need You. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

I means so much to hear from you!
