Intimacy With God. Can I say that out loud?

Intimacy

Does that word make you a little uncomfortable?

I’ll go ahead and say,  I think “intimacy” is an uncomfortable word.  And I only admit this because at the end of 2014, as I was praying for the upcoming year, The Lord inscribed two words in my heart.  Two words that will mark 2015.

Overcomer.  Which we talked about.

But there was another word… Intimacy.

And, truth be told, I didn’t want to tell you that.  Mainly, because I didn’t want strange things to pop up in google when you searched for my blog.  And secondly, because the word creates a little discomfort.  Why is that?  Maybe because our culture has perverted the word.  Maybe because the word is so connected with marriage and the intimacy shared (or not shared) in that relationship.  Or maybe it is because we don’t know what to do with the word “intimacy” when it comes to Jesus.

I think intimacy makes us uncomfortable because we just don’t know what do with a God who created us for intimacy.

Intimacy with Him.

But as I delve into this word and into God’s Word, I am compelled to type it in all caps. Bold print. INTIMACY WITH GOD.  There is life-changing power within ever nook and cranny of these letters.

Let me ask you.  Honest, OK?

Do you have a hard time spending INTIMATE TIME with God?

I do. Me first. Yes.

And if you honestly answered “yes” to this question then let me invite you into a weekly series here at A Cup Of Joe.  Unknown

Simple, subtle yet profound shifts in our lives can move us into a deeper relationship, a more intimate relationship, with a very real, very present, very loving God.  I want that.

Do you?

If so, do this…

1.  Pray first.  Ask God to reveal areas that are hindering you moving closer to Him. Then ask for His Grace to help you remove those obstacles.

We will begin there.  And here.

2.  Read Ephesians 6:10 in the Amplified Version (below) and see if anything stands out to you.  What happens to our lives when we pursue greater intimacy?  Do you see it?

Be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. Ephesians 6:10 AMP

Comment below your answer to #2.  What are a few things that happen in this verse?  How does this encourage you TODAY?

Get excited!  The year is about to take a very hard turn towards Intimacy: Going Deeper With God.

**Share with your friends.  Invite them on this journey, too.**

  1. God calls himself the “spring of living water.” The first thing that comes to my mind when I read “draw your strength from Him” is that his living water nourishes me, is boundless, and gives me hope and eternal life! And is all I need for intimacy with Him. Love this post today!

I means so much to hear from you!
