Jesus & Joe {Our Last One}

Jesus & Joe:  A Coffee Devotional

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Matthew 6:33

An entire month has come and gone and we have enjoyed many a cup of joe together, haven’t we?  I am so thankful for you joining me for our Jesus & Joe series.  Some of you have come daily. Some of you when you got a chance.  Some of you, the Lord has brought you here for the first time ever, and I am so glad.

This being our last Friday of Jesus & Joe I felt this post needed to be significant. Right?  Like super-charged.  Extremely poignant and creative.  Maybe an extraordinary graphic or fancy Instagram.

But all of that felt like pressure.

So I’ve prayed, asking the Lord, “What do we leave them with today?”

And it comes down to this.

My very heart for Jesus & Joe was to help create a launch pad for your day.  A place to begin the morning with a bowl of spiritual Wheeties.  A safe cyberspace spot to “Seek first His Kindgom and His Righeousness”…

And that is my encouragement to you.  And me.  That we continue, every single morning, seeking first HIS KINGDOM.

Note to self:

Jesus does not say, “Seek first Facebook, then His Kingdom.”

Jesus does not say, “Seek first Twitter, then His Kingdom…”

Jesus does not say, “See first your online banking, then His Kingdom…”

(I do all of the above.)

I say this not to bring condemnation. At all.  There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.  But I say it as an encouragement that your morning toast is buttered here, in this book…

And what happens then?

Well, look at this verse in context of Scripture (this is big)…

So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.  Matthew 6: 31-34

Jesus’ commandment to “seek His Kingdom FIRST” is in context of WORRY.

Oh, lawd!

Seeking first HIS Kingdom reduces worry. Seeking first HIS Kingdom decreases anxiety.

And in a culture where anti-anxiety medication is the #1 prescription written, I think it’s time we take note.

God’s word is the antidote to anxiety.

I know that many of you are struggling today with fear and doubt and worry and sadness and pain.   I have struggled recently with my own fears and anxieties.  I haven’t shared much here, but I have been fighting warfare of fierce measure.  But hence, the sparkly album and prayer have been the first thing to seek.

So, today let us commit to Seek First His Kingdom ALL OF SEPTEMBER and every day thereafter.

Let nothing stop you.

I encourage you. I urge you.

Thank you for being here this month.  Truly.

Lord, please fill your servants today with the knowledge of Your will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that they may live a lives worthy of you, Lord, and please You in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of You.  In Jesus Name. Amen. (Colossians 1:9-10)

If you need extra prayer, please leave a comment.  I pray over each one.
