Jesus & Joe {Suffering}

Jesus & Joe:  A Coffee Devotional

Simmer in this verse…

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand and we rejoice in hope of the glory of GOD.

MORE THAN THAT, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character and character produces hope and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.  Romans 5:1-5

When I read Romans 1&2 I think, ‘Gosh, what could be better than being justified by faith?  Or peace with God through Christ?  What could be better that standing in grace or rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God?’

But Paul says, that even above rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God, EVEN MORE THAN THAT we rejoice in our sufferings.

But Paul? Wait. Paul, Paul, Paul.

Sufferings? Anxieties? Hardship? Burdens? WHY?

Yes.  Because sufferings produce endurance.

Endurance produces character.

Character produces hope.

And hope does not put us to shame.  It doesn’t disappoint.

Suffering births hope.

Today, if you are suffering, I know you may think it crazy, BUT REJOICE.

Endurance and character and hope is coming to life in you.

And on the other side of this affliction, you look more like Jesus.

    • Sweet Lord Jesus, thank you for Michelle. Thank you for her marriage. I pray over her and her husband in Jesus Name and as your peace and complete unity to flood their home. Overwhelm them with Your Spirit. Amen.

  1. Hey Becky! I’m sorry I haven’t been around in awhile. I could use some prayer right now. I am suffering through a couple of things that are hard to find hope in. I totally know where my hope is, and when I focus in Him I can rejoice. But at times I’m struggling to keep my focus. Thank you for your prayers! ❤

    • Lord Jesus, thank you for Amy. Thank you for her heart and passion for you. YOU ARE HER HOPE as she knows so well. Lord I pray that Amy would keep her eyes unwaveringly focused on you. Let her not look to the right or left. Help her to take every thought captive and make it obedient to your word. In Jesus Name. Amen.

    • Lord Jesus, thank you for Merideth. Thank you for her longing to be in fellowship with Godly women. Lord, give her a solid couple of friends who love YOU above all and long for the same friendships. Give her a Jonathan and David friendship, Lord. An iron sharpening iron relationship. In Jesus Name. Amen.

  2. Please pray for my family as we attend the memorial mass for my sister, Terri, who passed on saturday, august 16. We are a family of nine siblings and she will be sorely missed. Pray that all can be adults and use the service to celebrate her life and not their”stuff”. Thank you so much.

    • Lord, thank you for Kathy. Thank you that you are her comfort and her ever present help in a time of need. Thank you for Terri’s life and the joy that this sister-hood brought for so many years. Comfort her family and bring supernatural unity to that memorial. Fill them all to overflow with your peace and Holy Spirit. I speak UNITY over that family, In Jesus Name.

  3. Becky, I would love your prayers. I am a special ed teacher in Maryville, who is 34.5 weeks pregnant with a 3 year old at home. We have started a lot of new things in my position at school this year and I am slowly weeding my way through and also needing to train my interim. And today, I am just plum worn out! I needed that verse…peace of God and hope. 🙂 Thank you so much for offering to pray. I am loving this month of short snippets to chew on. Have a blessed day!

    • Lord thank you so much for new life and sweet babies. Lord, thank you that you sustain us, Lord. THank you that we have every need met in you. That it is in our weaknesses that your POWER is made perfect. Please sustain my friend today as she is feeling the last weeks of pregnancy in full esteem. Lift her up like on the wings of eagles. In Jesus Name. Amen.

I means so much to hear from you!
