If You Are Hungry, Then Eat {Grace Words Wednesday}

“We walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7

Do you ever feel a million miles away from God?  I have to imagine that we all do.  k5BDmBj

Monday I called my mentor, Debbie, in a spiritual panic, for I felt no matter how hard I searched for God, it seemed I could not find Him anywhere.

I hadn’t changed my routine… I still woke early and with coffee poured, read His Word. Pandora was still set to that same worship station.  I still entered into prayer early morning and again throughout my day.  I wasn’t being disobedient in an obvious area of my life that might cause me distance.  But I felt far away all the same.

With tears, “Debbie, what do I do?  What have I done?  I feel so far away from Him.”  And because she is a spiritual giant in my life, I added, ” You probably never do.”

“Oh Becky, He hasn’t gone anywhere.  Remember, He is Emmanuel, God with us.  He is with you, Becky.  He loves you.  He is right there.  He is first and the last.  The Alpha and Omega.  Our EVER-PRESENT HELP in times of need.  He is ever-present with you.  Right now. I have just learned what to do with those types of emotions …. we aren’t to be led by them. Stand firm in His Word, not your feelings.

Comforted by her words, I added, “I am just longing for Him… and so hungry for Him.  I hunger for His Word.”

“Then eat.”  She said.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6

Her words, so simple.  Yet so poignant.  “Then eat.”

Sure, I had been reading, but not feasting.  Snacking, not devouring.

I am hungry so I should eat.

Hunger (peinaō) to crave ardently, to seek with eager desire.

As we move into this Advent season together, I want to encourage us all, to eagerly desire God’s presence and power in our lives.  Let us crave, with ardent hunger, the Holy Word.

After my call with Debbie, I searched through the Scriptures and found God’s promises to me.  His powerful words that are mine to sink my teeth into.  I want to share them with you, for you to meditate on and to murmur throughout your day.  Paul tell us in Romans that “faith comes by hearing”, and while it is important for us to sit under sound teaching, it is as important to hear Truth from our own mouths.  Let us speak His Word and build ourselves up.

Let us not be swayed by our emotions (or lack thereof).

 But let us hunger for righteousness and be satisfied…

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.  Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:3-4

My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19

God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9

You have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. Colossians 2:10

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:14

Earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way. 1 Corinthians 12:31

Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 {love this}

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4
