Iron sharpens iron, as one man sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17
Marriage does its diligence to mirror back our sin.
Before Brent, no one had to be bothered with my snappy, selfish attitude.
Before Brent, no one had to be bothered with my body image struggles.
Before Brent, no one had to be bothered with my obsessive penny-pinching or passion for slightly burnt popcorn.
(Note – I recognize the latter isn’t sinful, but Brent might argue otherwise.)
Marriage exposes us. And this is God’s plan.
Marriage gives center-stage to areas in our hearts that need to be dealt with most in order to chisel us more into the image of Christ. And God uses Brent more than any other to sharpen me more into Christ-likeness.
As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man. Proverbs 27:19
And although this does not seem like a gift, it is indeed one of the greatest in the mystery of marriage.
Today, let us be thankful for our mirrors … our mates. And be mindful of God’s intention of exposing our sin in marriage in order grow us closer to Himself.
Lord, today I recognize how you use (spouse) to expose my sin. Thank you that you love me enough to sharpen me through the mystery of marriage. Today I confess…. (areas of your heart exposed most by marriage) and ask you to forgive me. Use marriage to continually refine me. I receive it, Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Love this marriage series!!!! This is so true!!!
