I AM A SUCKER FOR A CUTE OWL {and deeper spiritual truths}

Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Ephesians 5:14

Francis Chan says that just “five seconds in the Presence of God can change our lives forever.”

As I celebrated the Home-going of my beautiful mother yesterday, I couldn’t help but imagine her in the presence of her Maker. Her eyes fully open to the reality of what is to come for us all.

I wondered yesterday, knowing what she knows now, how she would encourage me to be living my life here.

I can imagine she would sound something like Paul says in Ephesians 5… Awake sweet girl, arise from the dead!  Let Christ shine on you! Be careful, Becky, how you live – not as unwise, but as wise!  Make the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Do not be foolish but understand what the Lord’s will is. Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit.  Always give thanks to God the Father for everything.  v.14-20

I bought this new coffee the other day and, yes, I was completely suckered by its packaging. Is that not the cutest owl ever?

But its message spoke to me a deep spiritual truth: Live Wide Awake.

This is my morning prayer!  Lord, let my eyes be wide-open, making the most of every opportunity.  I want to see this day as a gift from the Lord.  Oh, that I would GET OVER myself, and pursue God with a rambunctious fervor!!

Does this verse speak to you, too?  Wake up sleeper!  Rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you!  v.14

Praise the Lord! Don’t we want that!?  To lift our sleepy heads so that Christ would make day dawn upon us and give us light!

Today, I ask myself, have I started nodding off spiritually?  Am I dozing off in God’s Word?  Am I half asleep in my prayer life?

Wake up, Sweet Becky!  This is what life is about.

We have a new day… I pray our spiritual eyes look like this crazy owl! Let us make the most of every opportunity!  Let us live wisely, understanding God’s will!  Let us be filled with the Spirit and speak words of life and light to our children…to our spouses…to our friends…to our co-workers. Today, let us live in a spirit of thankfulness, giving thanks to the Father for everything.

Wake up, O sleeper!  And Christ WILL shine on you!

  1. I would’ve bought it, too, with that cute owl on the front! I love that verse, too! I’m sorry I haven’t been around much lately, but I’m hoping things will slow down a bit!
