I have been in the other room.
And He has been next door.
GOD.
In the thin walls of my heart, I knew He was there. Just right beside of me. I could still hear Him. Faintly. Muffled through sheet rock and busy streets.
I sometimes do this. Go one room down and get busy. I begin rearranging closets and opening draws. Which leads me to sorting papers. Then dusting the tables and vacuuming the floors. Before I know it, I am so preoccupied with things in life that do not matter, I forget…
I have a guest in my house.
In my heart.
Yesterday, He knocked on the wall. Tapping from the other side. Reminding me that He hasn’t left the premises.
He is never the one to leave.
It is always me.
He called to me. Through the busy sheetrock. He beckoned me….Draw near.
Those words. Draw near. I heard them all day.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8
Draw Near {Eggizō} To approach. To join one thing to another. To worship God. To turn one’s thoughts to God. To become acquainted with God.
I move first.
Do you feel me on this? Today are you in the room next door? You know He is there, but you are busy shuffling through busyness and organizing shelves. Not taking time to enter into His presence?
Or is He a few doors down? Has it been a while?
This is the moment. Right now. Let us draw near.
Approach Him.
He is right there.
Respond and Reflect:
What things drive you away from the presence of God? Busyness? Brokenness? Bitterness?
What draws you near again? For me, it is worship. Every time. Yesterday I cleaned the house with my headphones. Singing off key as loud as I could. Share with us what joins your heart back to His.
Power Verses:
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:6
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
Seriously Becky- this morning I woke up with the words draw near on my heart and brain. Draw near, draw near….and yesterday I spent two hours picking up, organizing, shuffling papers- sigh** Thanks girl. See ya tonite:)
Grace
Grace, He is so good to let us DRAW BACK IN! See you tonight!
Busyness is what gets me. For Bible study, I was reading the story of Mary & Martha in Luke 10 this morning and reminded of how Martha-like I can be. I really want to be more like Mary & just sit at Jesus’ feet, listening to His word. What helps me draw near is worship as well. Also, it helps when I go to His Word with the intention of meeting with & hearing from Him, not just checking something off my list. Thanks for this, Becky! I love your heart!
